Well, you're not a winner so much as that you just guessed correctly. Diamonds and pearls are two unique, vastly different but similarly elegant jewels. Both are formed naturally, and both are highly prized. They both also have imitations made of them.

Pearls occur naturally, formed in the soft tissue of a living shelled mollusk. They are very rare to find in the wild. However, they are such a popular gemstone that they have long been harvested and grown in farms, so they are now much more readily available. Synthetic pearls have been around in jewelry for almost as long as the real thing, but the fakes are unable to measure up to the irridesence of the real thing.

Diamonds, of course, are also found in nature, but they require quite specific conditions to occur naturally. They are the most well known of the precious stones, and, although they are expensive, they are highly prized for their beauty and are such a common stone to be worn, despite their value. This is due in large part to the traditions associated with the stone. Engagment rings most often include diamonds, and diamond earrings, necklaces or bracelets are also commonly given by men to the important women in their lives as a display of their love.

Some people consider themselves to be diamond people, and others prefer pearls to their more glittering counterpart. Each has its beauty and virtues which cannot be denied, but still, many women prefer one over the other.

There is no need for a battle, though. There is a solution to this problem of which is better or which to wear on a particular occasion. It is not necessary to make the difficult choice between the two. They can be worn together. Many beautiful items of jewelry are available which combine the two gems in a lovely and harmonious way.

Diamond and pearl pendants will suit every girl's taste. When these two stones are set together, they do not compete for attention and admiration. They sit together peacefully, demonstrating their graciousness and good will to the other jewel. They seem to modestly gesture to their neighbor as if to say, „Yes, I am beautiful, but don't forget to notice my partner! She's beautiful, too, and I wouldn't look the same without her by my side!”
