A Dazzling Opal Pendant
An opal is the most brilliant, fiery and colorful of the gemstones. It's smooth, cloudy surface is lit up with crinkles and flashes of color, yellow, orange, pink, green and blue. They shimmer in the light and come alive as the stone is rotated. Its brilliance is like no other gem and the rainbow of light it reflects is awe inspiring, and beautiful to behold.
The opal is the birthstone for those born in the month of October, but certainly has great appeal to everyone. These gems are found largely in Austrailia and come in the most common, milky transluscent stone, to the black opal and the Peruvian, or blue opal. Each one is unique in it's pattern, level of irradescence and the colors that it radiates.
Opals are also made artificially, but these differ noticeably from their natural counterparts in the pattern that the color makes throughout the stone. Synthetic opals do not share the individuality that those formed in nature do.
Opals are the perfect stone to grace a pendant. Because of the variety of color they display, they look beautiful when set in any kind of metal. Silver and white gold opal pendants are common, as are gold opal pendants. Gold opal jewelry is perhaps a bit more popular, as the gold tone contrasts nicely with the light shade of the opal. The deep golden hue provides a fitting background to highlight the paler shade of the stone, complimenting the bursts of color that come through the more subdued stone surrounding it.
Opals, like many gems look stunning in a single setting. With one larger opal it is easier to see the play of color and appreciate the unique character of the stone than with a smaller one. Still, an opal does not lose its charm when set in a group of other opals of similar quality. Sometimes, however, they are joined with other stones to increase the wow factor.
On their own opals make gorgeous jewelry, but when coupled with diamonds, they are exquisite. This kind of pendant is truly luxurious and elegant. It is obvious that women wearing these kinds of opal pendants are women of taste and refinement. They recognize the beauty and femeninity of this combination of gems, and display them as an extension of themeselves. Such pendants can be worn day to day, or saved for special occasions, when an especially graceful and delicate look is desired.
Whether one was born in October or not, an opal pendant is an essential item for every jewelry collection. The opal is a stone that looks lovely on any skin tone and can be worn with any style, and will bring out the best in its wearer.
